Five Forty Investments is a family owned investment company, built upon the businesses begun by our patriarchs; Jacob Sapirstein, Irving Stone and Morry Weiss. In 1906, as a new immigrant to the United States, Jacob Sapirstein began working as a jobber of picture postcards. From this humble beginning, Jacob and his children grew his business into American Greetings, which today is a leading international greeting card publisher, incorporating both Papyrus and Recycled Paper Greetings.

 

The Weiss family, descendants of Jacob Sapirstein, maintained control of American Greetings until 2018, when the family sold sixty percent of the company to Clayton, Dubilier and Rice, a private equity partner. Today, Five Forty Investments and the Weiss family continue to play an important role in the governance and equity holdings of American Greetings, continuing a family legacy of 110 years.

 

The Weiss family, through Five Forty Ventures, invests primarily in consumer products businesses and real estate. In addition to Five Forty Ventures’ ownership of American Greetings, the company owns and operates Clinton Cards UK, Paladar Restaurant Group, Cloudco Entertainment, The Stone Mill, and L’or de Seraphine.

 

Five Forty Real Estate owns, operates, and manages over 6 million square feet of commercial and residential income-producing real estate which is self developed or owned with strategic joint venture partners. Some projects include Circle Square, Centric Apartments, Crocker Park and Eton - Chagrin Boulevard.
